The Invisible Chains: Why I’m Choosing to Distance Myself from Family

· ⏱ 1 min read · Family & Secrets

Life has a strange way of throwing curveballs, doesn’t it? Mine began when I was just a teenager, barely old enough to understand the permanence of loss. My parents, my anchors, were suddenly gone. It felt like the world had crumbled, but then my aunt, my father’s sister, stepped in. She took me and my younger siblings under her wing, blending us into her own bustling household. We were grateful, truly. She had her own children, her own struggles, yet she opened her home and heart. I watched her, learned from her, and as soon as I could, I started working odd jobs, contributing whatever I could to the family pot. It was my duty, my way of repaying her kindness, of easing her burden.
